Open Educational Resources (OER) Textbook: SLST-T131
In 2021, I received a fellowship to design no-cost course materials for SLST-T131, a course offered through the Department of Second Language Studies for multilingual learners.
This project met a need, as the course materials required were expensive, and learners were unable to purchase used copies or sell their books back to the bookstore. Transitioning to a no-cost version of the course materials for the course created more equitable multilingual learner access to course materials, particularly for those students for whom buying a coursepack represents a financial hardship.
To complete this project, I used Open Educational Resources (OER) to create a free digital textbook for learners. I also collaborated with copyright experts, accessibility advisors, and librarians who specialized in OER to ensure the quality and accessibility of the final deliverable.
I presented the results of my work at a state conference in order to help other educators utilize OER in their courses.
